Home Made Toenail Fungus Treatment: Fact of Fiction?
We’ve all seen the headline: A Homemade toenail fungus treatment you shouldn’t be without! Do they really work? A fungal infection doesn’t develop over night so any treatment is going to be long lasting. Consistency is the key. It is generally advised to apply any treatment at least twice a day for optimum results. Maintaining a dry environment with adequate air circulation is important for discouraging fungal growth. This may mean changing socks more than once a day or trying to go barefoot whenever possible. Various household ingredients have been tried by individuals for toenail fungus treatment. Many swear by them.
Some home treatments for nail fungus infections worth a try.
Soaking ones feet in a baking soda or table salt solution has some merit. Salt deters the growth of organisms and was used for years to protect meat from spoilage. Since the human body is 0.9% salt, a solution will have to contain a ratio higher than 1part salt to 100 parts water to be effective. Again this treatment has to be performed at least twice a day, every day, for a long period of time.
The latest household product being used for toenail fungus treatment is mentholated ointment. Menthol is another natural organism deterrent. Rub the ointment on the nail bed, surrounding area and under the nail if possible. The absorption of the menthol is said to kill the fungus while the ointment itself prevents dryness.
Rubbing alcohol applied directly to the top of the nail and under the nail will kill fungus as well. Alcohol is used in most disinfectant hand gels and eliminates a wide range of bacteria, viruses and other organisms. It will have a drying effect to the surrounding skin. Lotion will need to be applied to prevent skin cracking or this may be a source for fungus to enter the body.
A solution of half bleach and half water dobbed around and under the toenail is another home remedy for toenail fungus treatment. The bleach will also dry out surrounding tissue. Regardless of what treatment is used it is necessary to get rid of the loose debris under the nail. This can easily be done after bathing or showering. Debriding ensures the fungi will absorption the treatment.
For those who want to get rid of it once and for all.
